The Economics of the Olympic Games
This report (PDF) from Goldman Sachs on the economics of the Olympic Games also includes some information about past games -- here's a map showing the location of all of the summer games and a chart showing the increasing participation of women. And this page features a chart listing the different event types at each Games -- the 1936 Berlin Olympics evidently features an Aeronautics competition!
